Voice Instructor & Stage Director
Williams is an active performer and teacher in Colorado. She is at home
on the musical or classical stage as well as singing in several jazz ensembles
in the area. She has played to sold out audiences with her one woman
cabaret shows - most recently "Slipping Through My Fingers" which she
takes to Boston next year. On the musical stage she most recently played
Mother Abbess in TheSound of Music in March of 2015 with SOFA of Boulder.
Melissa has a very busy
private vocal studio in Boulder (South
Boulder Vocal Studio) and also stage directs shows with several local
theatres including CenterStage Theater Company and the Off Broadway School of
Fine Arts. Melissa’s true passion is teaching. As a theatre educator, she has taught classes in
acting, musical theatre, understanding and creating characters, creative
improvisation and physical theatre. She enjoys teaching acting to singers and how to
create believable characters while “freeing” the voice through movement and
dramatic texts. She believes in the power of the performing arts in developing young people’s confidence,
creativity and sense of community.
training is classical but she grew up singing the American Songbook and
performing in many musicals. She holds a MM in Voice and Pedagogy from
the University of Colorado studying with the late Barbara Doscher. She
trained at the Boston Opera Institute
with Sharon Daniels and Phyllis Curtin. Melissa recently completed the 2015
Winter Intensive with Double Edge Theater in Massachusetts and has begun her
certified training with Michael Lugering – The Expressive Actor.
and her partner Scott Sewell live in Boulder and are raising two teen-age daughters.
