Melissa Williams
Voice Instructor & Stage Director

Melissa Williams is an active performer and teacher in Colorado.   She is at home on the musical or classical stage as well as singing in several jazz ensembles in the area.  She has played to sold out audiences with her one woman cabaret shows - most recently "Slipping Through My Fingers" which she takes to Boston next year.  On the musical stage she most recently played Mother Abbess in TheSound of Music in March of 2015 with SOFA of Boulder.
Melissa has a very busy private vocal studio in Boulder (South Boulder Vocal Studio) and also stage directs shows with several local theatres including CenterStage Theater Company and the Off Broadway School of Fine Arts.  Melissa’s true passion is teaching.  As a theatre educator, she has taught classes in acting, musical theatre, understanding and creating characters, creative improvisation and physical theatre. She enjoys teaching acting to singers and how to create believable characters while “freeing” the voice through movement and dramatic texts.  She believes in the power of the performing arts in developing young people’s confidence, creativity and sense of community.
Melissa’s training is classical but she grew up singing the American Songbook and performing in many musicals.  She holds a MM in Voice and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado studying with the late Barbara Doscher.  She trained at the Boston Opera Institute with Sharon Daniels and Phyllis Curtin. Melissa recently completed the 2015 Winter Intensive with Double Edge Theater in Massachusetts and has begun her certified training with Michael Lugering – The Expressive Actor.
Melissa and her partner Scott Sewell live in Boulder and are raising two teen-age daughters.
